Applying Feminist Conceptions of Epistemic Injustice to the Philosophical Foundations of Social Science Research Design
This paper explores the ways in which feminist conceptions of epistemic injustice come to bear on social science research. In particular, this paper considers how social science researchers’ assumptions about reality, knowledge and knower change their understandings of the impacts of and responses to epistemic injustice. How could different feminist philosophical conceptions of epistemic injustice inform social science research design? This paper concludes with reflections on how more robust and philosophically nuanced understandings of epistemic injustice can inform social science research such that research projects themselves, in addition to their impacts, can be meaningful enactments of resistance in the project of addressing epistemic injustice.
