Amtrak offers train transportation to Salem. Groome Transportation
Groome transportation runs shuttle vans between the Portland Airport and The Holiday Inn in Salem (a 8 minute Uber/Lyft ride to The Salem Convention Center). Their shuttles run at nine different times throughout the day. They recommend making reservations online ahead of time and will suggest a shuttle time based on your flight information. Flixbus
Flixbus offers affordable bus transportation between Portland and Salem. One of their pick-up and drop-off locations is at the corner of Liberty and Chemeketa (a 10-minute walk to The Salem Convention Center). Local Walks
There are many beautiful and historic parks around The Salem Convention Center. Many of these are walking distance from the venue, perfect for a stroll on a nice day! ShineonSalem has a list of wonderful self-guided walking tours for all the locations mentioned below.
Riverfront Park
Riverfront Park is a block away from The Salem Convention Center and has 2 bridges you can walk across the Willamette River. The Gilbert House Children’s Museum is located there as well as a carousel for those who want to relive some childhood fun.
There is a choice of seven tour routes that explore people, events, and places that highlight the Black residents of Eugene. You can find information on the tours on the travel Oregon website and by downloading the Strides for Justice app. The app includes a historical synopsis of the sites and landmarks for each tour.
Bush Park
A 10 minute walk from downtown, Bush Park is home to Salem’s municipal rose garden, The Historic Bush House Museum & Conservatory and Salem Art’s Association’s Bush Barn Art Center & Annex.
Deepwood Estate and Pringle Creek
A 15 minute walk along Pringle creek will lead you to the Deepwood Estates and Gardens. The Deepwood house was built 125 years ago and plays a huge role in Salem’s history.
Salem Capital State Park
Start on the corner of Court and Cottage and walk amongst the trees, flags and different commemorative plaques. If you call ahead (503-986-1388) to make an appointment, you might also be able to schedule a tour inside the Capitol building. Not all sections of the Capital are open currently due to construction.
Fairview Wetlands
A favorite spot for birdwatchers, these wetlands feature a trail with informational signs about the wildlife that can be found in the area.
