Tribal 101
This session will build foundational Tribal knowledge that includes defining sovereignty, Native identity, historical and intergenerational trauma, Native ways of being (relational worldview), and Oregon Tribes. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in small and larger group discussion. Resources for continued learning will be provided at the end of the session. This will be a part one of a two-part series.

Leona Enright joins the Oregon Department of Human Services- Office of Tribal Affairs as the new Strategic Director of Tribal Initiatives. She is an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla IndianReservation located in Eastern Oregon. Leona graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Oregon University in 2021 with her Masters in Business Administration. She holds a Bachelors of Science majoring in Business Administration focusing on Leadership, Organization, and Management with a minor in Communications. While in her final year at Eastern Oregon University, Leona was nominated to join the National Millenial and GenZ Community. As the first Tribal voice to join the community, Leona contributed to elevated conversations regarding current issues and disproportionalities facing Generation Z and Millennials with corporate, foundation, governmental, and nonprofit leaders throughout the world. Leona brings her Tribal Government experience in Economic and Community Development to the team as well as her strong financial background. While employed with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Leona contributed to their Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy that supports economic sovereignty. She led a complete rebrand campaign that included graphic elements, social media marketing, web engagement, and community advertising for the Tribe's industrial and commercial properties within the Coyote Business Park. Similarly, Leona managed these same rebranding efforts for the Nixyáawii (the place of many springs) Neighborhood. While managing this large-scale project Leonaexecuted the Bureau of Indian Affairs lease negotiations of each Tribal Member seeking to begin their homeownership journey.

Marie has a Tribal lineage of Aamsskáápipikani (Blackfeet)/Cree/Ojibwe). She was raised in Oregon with a Siletz family. She works for the Oregon Department of Human Services as a Learning and Engagement Specialist developing and delivering Tribal focused content.
