Words Paint a Picture: Language and the Oregon ISP
We often “meet people on paper” before we get to know them in real life, and that first impression is often not accurate or empowering to the person. Documentation is a required part of our work, and it can serve to empower people or cast limiting labels. Join us to learn about person-centered language and explore using person-centered approaches to capture information in a way that is empowering, accurate, and works to promote the person’s ownership of their planning even when the information needing to be documented is challenging.

OTAC Trainer
The Arc Oregon
My journey in the I/DD field began in 2015 when I went to work at a foster home in McMinnville OR. I worked there for a few years and then transitioned into a case management role at a brokerage. I was a Personal Agent for a few years and provided person-centered support to adults who lived in their own homes. I worked briefly as a case manager in the APD field. I have been an OTAC trainer with the Arc Oregon since 2022 and love working with case managers and providers.
