Planning Disrupted: How Technology is Reshaping Plans and Project Delivery

With continuing attention to the various types of disruptive technologies, there has been less emphasis on how disruption extends to project design and execution. This session explores how innovators are changing routines - from planning to actual service. The session first critiques traditional transportation planning’s shortcomings in meeting mobility and livability goals. The second portion delves into research on new planning methods such as performance-based planning and pilots that better incorporate trends, technologies, and uncertainty. Finally, the session focuses on innovative project delivery for mobility that includes micromobility, infrastructure design and management, data needs, and stakeholder engagement.

Eka Hintaran, Transport for London xxx

Lisa Nisenson, WGI Lisa Nisenson develops next generation planning for new mobility and integrated placemaking for WGI. This work anticipates and incorporates trends such as climate impacts and new technologies into project work. This is reflected in recent sustainable mobility and performance-based plans for public and private sector clients. Her career began in the USEPA’s Smart Growth office working on forward-looking standards and guidance on transit-oriented development and green infrastructure. In 2016, she joined Alta Planning and Design to build their New Mobility portfolio. She continues to lead national conversations on practical applications of data-driven and performance-based planning.
