Innovation Framework for New Developments
The rate of technological development and adoption means disruptive innovations (such as connected autonomous vehicles, drones etc) are expected to go from trials to deployment within a decade. This creates challenges in defining best practice designing new developments, from transportation, public space and building perspectives, as they need to consider currently nascent innovations and incorporate minimum provisions to not be obsolete before delivery. Oxfordshire County Council’s Innovation Service has created a framework for developers, planners, and designers to include innovative solutions, in both requirements and effects, and futureproof new developments. This includes learnings from several innovation projects and council expertise.
