The Future of Airports as Intermodal Mobility Hubs

This session examines the future role of airports as intermodal mobility hubs. The aim is to discuss and reflect on the future trajectory of cities and airports in the age of emerging technologies and a growing demand for air travel. The participants will receive an overview of scenarios for mitigating emissions associated with airport access and egress on the example of Schiphol Airport from the TULIPS project. The speakers include experts from Vervoerregio Amsterdam, NS, NLR and TNO. Together we discuss strategies on how public transport providers and airports can create a sustainable and flexible mobility offer.

Dr.Yashar Araghi, Senior Scientist and Research Lead, TNO
Yashar Araghi is a senior scientist at TNO (Dutch applied research organisation) and holds a PhD from the Delft University of Technology on quantitative assessments methods of environmental policies in the transport sector. His main area of expertise is in understanding user behaviour and preferences regarding different modalities in the transport sector. He has published several peer reviewed academic articles on how people make choices when it comes to sustainability in the transport sector and also has worked on several projects regarding the electrification of the road transport. |

Klaas Boersma, Senior Strategic Advisor at Royal Schiphol Group & Board member at RailForum, Royal Schiphol Group
Senior Strategic Advisor klaas provides strategic guidance on critical decisions, shaping the airport's long-term vision and masterplan. His expertise and commitment to sustainability drive Schiphol's intermodal agenda. Deeply involved in the Amsterdam metro line extension to Schiphol. He works with all key stakeholders to improve air-rail, making it more convenient and efficient for passengers. Klaas also sits on the board of Railforum and supervises academics in the field airport planning and multimodal hubs collaborating with the TUDelft and the Academy of Architecture. Klaas is an accomplished speaker at conferences and has co-authored several publications. |

Dr.Martin Nagelsmit, Head of Sustainability and Environment Department, NLR
Martin Nagelsmit (1983) is Head of the Sustainability and Environment department at the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre. Previously he was Business Manager at the Aerospace Vehicles Division of NLR and led NLR’s electric flight research. Nagelsmit studied Aerospace Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. For his graduation, he did a Research Internship at the Pennsylvania State University before joining NLR. Martin started as a PhD researcher at NLR, which led to a successful patent application. Martin is the chairman of the ECATS International Association for the promotion of joint activities in the field of aviation environmental impact. |

Jessica Schroeder, Scientific Researcher, Fraunhofer-Institute for Material Flow and Logistics
Scientific Researcher/ Project Manager at Fraunhofer IML in Frankfurt (Main) in the department for Aviation Logistics.
Expertise in data driven solution making on sustainable aviation and logistic planning, and the combination of aviation in intermodal and multimodal transportation.
Previous experience in local transport services at state level.
Graduated with a B.Sc. in Transport Economics at the Technical University of Dresden and a M.Sc. in Logistic and Airtraffic Management. |
