Autonomy in Transit: A working model for accessible, autonomous microtransit informed by live programs in Arlington, TX and Miami, FL


Location: Oregon Convention Center - C-122

Optimally, AVs will be shared and part of the public transit network. Arlington, TX, Florida, and May Mobility will present findings from their AV microtransit programs, with a focus on integration with existing transit services, accessibility, and expanding access to opportunity. Panelists will share data, experience and perspective to better equip public agencies to proactively shape an AV future that expands coverage, increases frequency, and attracts new riders to existing fixed route transit.


CE Credits for APA, AIA, and ASLA, should be available for many sessions and workshops. More information on this will be available shortly.

Carlos Cruz-Casas Carlos Cruz-Casas, Miami Dade County

Carlos Cruz-Casas, P.E. is the Chief Innovation Officer at Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works. His primary focus is to introduce mobility innovation and plan for a fully integrated transportation system. Carlos received his Master’s degree in urban transportation planning from University of Florida’s College of Engineering, and his Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Puerto Rico. He now serves as a Board Member for the Open Mobility Foundation..


Ann Foss Ann Foss, City of Arlington

Ann has been with the City of Arlington since 2016 and is the Planning and Programming Manager for the Transportation Department. She is responsible both for long-range transportation planning and policy for the City and for implementing innovative transportation solutions. Ann works to secure grant funding and has played a large role in launching and sustaining the City’s on-demand rideshare service and three autonomous vehicle deployments. Ann holds a BA in Anthropology, a MS in Urban Planning, and a Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Public Policy. Ann is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.


Sarah Gryniewicz Sarah Gryniewicz, May Mobility

Sarah Pressprich Gryniewicz is a Strategy Analyst at May Mobility. She focuses on how autonomous vehicles can complement Public Transportation and achieve an equitable and sustainable mobility environment for all members of society. Sarah worked for several years in public transit Southeastern Michigan in strategy leadership, organizational development, and community engagement. Through her time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Benin, West Africa, she became passionate about infrastructure and “community of place.” She has a BA in History and Economics from the University of Michigan and a Masters of Regional Planning from Cornell University.
