Got Change for The Bus? Mobility Wallets and the Future of Transit Fare Payment Equity


Location: Oregon Convention Center - C-123

Mobility Wallets have the promise to deliver Mobility as a Service (MaaS) by providing seamless interoperability between all modes of transportation including public bus and rail, private ride-hailing, scooter/bike service by unifying the account and/or payment. In this session we will share examples of Mobility Wallets from Los Angeles and Portland that leverage different technologies and approaches to provide an transportation menu of options to low-income residents. We will also consider the future of open loop and account-based technology that could make it more feasible for all transport systems to be interoperable and improve equity.

Rochelle currently oversees the TAP mobile app that serves LA Metro and 26 regional transit agencies throughout Los Angeles County. Chavez is leading the implementation of a complete-trip solution called Pay with TAP. She’s a native Angeleno who is earnest about equity, access, and optimizing the customer experience.
