Talk the Talk: Developing Discourse in the Math Classroom
Through language routines, rich, real-world problems, and diverse student ideas, this session aims to equip teachers with strategies to get students to participate in meaningful discourse. Math understanding and language development are interdependent, so we will develop tools to help students listen, speak, read, and write about math concepts, ideas, and experiences. We’ll engage with math discourse at different grade levels and practice collaboration and discussion, engagement techniques, and opportunities for using math discourse with students at all ability levels and varying levels of English language acquisition.
