This session will provide mathematics leaders with the vision, the work and the tools to be a bold leader for mathematics while continuing as a classroom teacher. Through exploring engines of change, the power of data and goal setting, and the unique opportunities of a classroom teacher, participants will explore effective methods for improving mathematics instruction in a school or district while maintaining their role in the classroom. This session will highlight for participants who are still in the classroom a pathway and a set of tools to effectively move math instruction forward in their school or district. It is based on the Dugours work of effective PLCs, the Effective mathematics Teaching Practices (Principles to Actions, 2014), and the work from Catalyzing Change in High School Mathematics (2018) on developing students’ mathematical identity and agency.
