Making the Math Practices Relevant to Students

,
Holiday Inn Portland, Grand Ballroom Salon 4, Lobby level

Focusing on the standards of mathematical practice helps to elevate students' ideas and celebrate the strengths they bring to their classroom community. In this session, we will look at strategies for recognizing their strengths and routines for making math class more accessible. We will be looking at a routine called Connecting Representations from Lucenta and Kelemanik's book, Routines for Reasoning. Connecting Representations is a routine that helps students apply SMP 7: Look for and make use of structure.
