Supporting Students Through Differentiation. K-8

,
Holiday Inn Portland, White Stag, Lower level

Through interactive activities, this workshop will give you an understanding of how to create engaging mathematics explorations that help students make connections in context. Five proven, research-based differentiation techniques will be explored: Physical, Visual, Contextual, Symbolic, and Verbal. We’ll use hands-on activities to explore how you can use multiple techniques to present similar problems to students at different levels of understanding, and together we’ll create a bank of resources for you to take back to your classroom. We’ll also practice collaboration and discussion, engagement techniques, and proven methods for improving differentiation for students at all ability levels and different levels of English language acquisition.

I grew up in Portland, where my love for teaching and learning began. I have taught High School Math in the Portland area for the last five years. I have been a Classroom Teacher, Mentor, Title 1 Teacher/Coordinator, and coach throughout my teaching career. I earned my undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Oregon. Furthering my studies, I attained a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois, and a Master of Arts in Teaching Advanced Mathematics from Lewis and Clark. I enjoy travelling, hiking pacific northwest trails with my husband and two dogs.
