Bio

Ivan Cheung, PhD joined the National Transportation Safety Board in 2010 as a transportation research analyst. At the NTSB, he conducted many transportation safety studies, with topics ranging from speeding, single-unit truck, curbside bus operation, and integrity management of gas transmission pipelines. Before joining the NTSB, he was a research scientist with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. At the IIHS, his research focused on aging drivers, speed, and the effects of red light cameras. He also has extensive experience in using geographic information systems, remote sensing technology, and spatial analysis in applied research in public health, demography, environmental assessment, and climatology. He received a PhD in Geography, specializing in Climatology, from UCLA and a MS in Environmental Sciences from Washington State University.
