Bio

Kay Ehas is CEO of Groundwork Jacksonville, Inc. (GWJax), the city’s primary non-profit organization specifically created to clean and redevelop the Emerald Necklace and convert contaminated land into parks, playgrounds, trails, and other public greenspace. Kay devoted more than 12 years to polishing two of Jacksonville’s urban neighborhood gems as a board member and past board chair of Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP). She has superior skills in consensus building, networking, recruiting, volunteer management and project implementation. Kay is passionate about urban neighborhood redevelopment and deeply believes that community empowerment is the key to vibrant successful neighborhoods. Kay has 15 years of experience in local government working with the City Council and a constitutional office, in addition to more than 11 years of private-sector human resources experience. However, she is better known for her community advocacy on behalf of the Riverside Avondale neighborhood, serving as board chair for three years. Under her leadership, the 40+ year-old organization implemented its first strategic plan, expanded its community building capacity and reorganized to address the concerns of the neighborhood's residents. Kay has a Master's in Communication from the University of Florida, and received the Graduation with Distinction award for superior scholarship.
