Malva Slachowitz is a senior transportation planner with King County Metro Transit in Seattle, Washington. She leads Metro’s Bike and Walk Program, including its emerging Safe Routes to Transit efforts. She has worked in active transportation and transportation demand management for over 25 years. Her projects engage employers, cities and communities in helping people travel on foot, by bike and by transit. Malva serves on the Puget Sound Regional Council Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board and the University of Washington’s Sustainable Transportation Program Advisory Board. She holds a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Washington. Malva volunteers with Cascade Bicycle Club and started the Safe Routes to Schools program at her local elementary school. She rides a 1986 steel-frame touring bike for commuting, errands and even touring when she gets a chance.
