People for Mobility Justice


Río, MAED, LCI is from the Los Angeles neighborhood of Echo Park with roots in what is now called Guatemala and El Salvador. Río- gender pronouns *they- is Multicultural Communities for Mobility's Programs and Policy Organizer. For 15 years Río has focussed on being an educator around bicycle safety and advocacy teaching over 10,000 students and training over 100 in train-the-trainers programs. Most of this work was done when Río was the Alameda County Bicycle Safety Co-Director for Safe Routes to School back in 2010. Due to *their focus in education, Río received a Masters in Education with a specialty in Equity in Urban areas. Río’s priority has been to work along side Black Indigenous People of Color who identify as Youth, Queer, Trans*, Intersex, or Women. *Their* bicycle journey has been threaded in various community based and grassroots organizations all over California-Arcata, the Bay and L.A. A personal passion of Río is having co-founded LA Rooted Youth Organizers Training, which takes place in various city landscapes and public areas via multimodal forms of transportation, mostly through bicycles.
