Culturelink Settlement and Community Services
Kristin Schwartz manages the Sustainable Communities department at CultureLink, a community services agency with 30 years’ experience serving newcomers to Canada. Working collaboratively with Cycle Toronto, the Toronto Cycling Think and Do Tank and other partners, she leads two cycling initiatives. The Bike to School Project reaches thousands of students annually with cycling education and encouragement programs which enable them to discover the personal, social and ecological benefits of cycling for transportation. The Bike Host program fosters a sense of belonging, healthy physical activity, social connections and fun among newcomers to Canada, by lending them bicycles for the summer and connecting them with confident cyclists who act as mentors. Kristin’s past work has included tenant organizing and community-based writing and radio production. She is a founding board member of two grassroots environmental organizations and is pursuing a graduate degree in Adult Education and Community Development. Kristin is a lifelong commuter cyclist and regularly bikes to school with her 11-year-old daughter.
