Tara Tolford received a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New Orleans, with a dual specialization in transportation planning and land use. She has been involved with the UNO Transportation Institute since 2009, and is currently responsible for leading all bicycle and pedestrian-related programs and research activities. This includes managing the Pedestrian Bicycle Resource Initiative, a project with the New Orleans Regional Planning Commission focusing on active transportation policy, data collection, and analysis, as well as leading new research for the Louisiana Transportation Research Center in order to provide the Louisiana Department of transportation and Development (DOTD) with needed information in support of the development of an efficient, cost-effective pedestrian and bicycle count program. Past research has included development of an active transportation planning and design course curriculum, complete streets policy development and implementation, and tools in support of smart growth and growth management in Louisiana. Tara is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), serves on the Louisiana DOTD Complete Streets Advisory Council, and chaired the New Orleans City Council Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Advisory Committee.
