Senior Engineer
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency
Mike Sallaberry is a licensed traffic engineer in California who has worked in transportation for 19 years. After a short stint with a private consulting firm, he moved to the SFMTA’s Bicycle Program then became the Traffic Calming Manager prior to his current position as the Senior Engineer for Livable Streets, which oversees pedestrian, traffic calming, streetscape, and bicycle projects in San Francisco. He has worked on dozens of streetscape and separated bikeway designs, and enjoys finding creative and innovative ways to improve facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit when space is at a premium. He has contributed to manuals and guidelines at the federal, state, and local government levels, has worked with NACTO, FHWA, and ITE, and is currently a voting member on the California Traffic Control Device Committee. Though his first choice is to bicycle, he travels in many ways and believes a healthy city provides a variety of quality, comfortable options for moving about and enjoying public space.
