Fiction Writing Workshop

Course Description

In this eight-week non-credit class we will study the principles of literary craft, including voice, tension, character, description, dialogue, and narrative arc. Each student will present one short story for workshop. We’ll read published stories and discuss ways to foster a daily commitment to reading and writing.

General Public: $160 before May 1; $190 after that date.
No additional fee for OLLI members registered for Spring Term

Ryan Blacketter

Ryan Blacketter

Ryan Blacketter is an author whose short stories have appeared in Image, Alaska Quarterly Review, Clackamas Literary Review, and Other Voices. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Blacketter is a recipient of a Haystack Writing Award and a Tennessee Williams Scholarship. He has received grants from Oregon Regional Arts and the Idaho Humanities Council. His novel-in-stories, Horses All Over Hell, was a finalist for the 2006 Bakeless Prize in Fiction. He is currently at work on a novel.

Ryan has taught creative writing at University of Iowa, Boise State University, Lane Community College, and University of Oregon.
