About Us

Mission

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Oregon (OLLI) exposes learners to Oregon's brightest minds, including emeritus and current faculty from UO and other universities as well as professionals from the community. Program offerings include lectures, short courses, ongoing discussion and interest groups covering topics from the humanities, the social and physical sciences, and the arts, in addition to issues of community and regional interest.

The OLLI creates accessible and innovative learning environments for Eugene/Springfield, Central Oregon and Portland residents, with special focus on mature adult participants. Learners from all backgrounds and levels of education are welcome to enjoy the benefits of membership. Curriculum is developed from a diverse array of topics; members create their own programming towards a goal of expanding their views of the world and enriching their lives and communities.

Background

In June 2004, the San Francisco-based Bernard Osher Foundation selected the University of Oregon as one of forty-eight sites for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. The Foundation supports a wide variety of educational and community projects and sustains a growing network of university-based lifelong learning programs in the United States.
