FAQ's About Credit and PDUs

Is it a semester or quarter hour credit?

The UO is on the quarter system.

What grading options are available?

Credit courses are pass/no pass only. The non-graded workshop option is also available.

Is credit available for graduate level? Or undergraduate?

Both graduate and undergraduate credit options are offered.

Can I sign up for more than one credit?

At this time only one unit of academic credit is available per workshop. The University of Oregon requires at least ten hours of in class or contact time and twenty hours for out-of-class on assignments for each credit unit granted.

Do I have to apply or become an admitted student to take an ED 2000+ course?

No formal application or admission is necessary when taking a workshop with the credit option.

What are the credit requirements?

Academic credit can be earned by attending a workshop and participating in extended sessions and/or distance education components. These may include lunch assignments, post-workshop sessions, and activities such as follow-up discussions with the presenter or an online assignment. All credit participants are required to complete an additional out-of-class assignment.

When are assignments due?

The due date for the assignments is usually four to six weeks after the workshop.

Can I get an extension?

If you are unable to complete the assignment(s) by the due date, you can request an extension by contacting the program coordinator at ctrinfo@uoregon.edu and instructor of record before the due date.

Who can I talk to about the credit requirements?

Please call Patrick Burns at (541) 346-4231 or send e-mail to ctrinfo@uoregon.edu for additional credit information.

How can I contact the presenter/instructor?

Most presenters provide a contact phone number or e-mail address in their workshop materials. If you need to speak with a presenter before the workshop please call the program coordinator at (800) 824-2714 or (541) 346-4231 or by e-mailing ctrinfo@uoregon.edu.

How do I get my grades?

Grades will be posted on DuckWeb at the end of the term; you can find these dates on the UO academic calendar. You can access your records on DuckWeb by using your Personal Access Code (PAC). PACs are assigned by the Office of the Registrar at the end of your initial term of enrollment.

I've lost my PAC number—how can I access my grades?

Contact the Office of the Registrar student records specialists at (541) 346-2935; they will help you set a new PAC number.

How do I get my transcript?

You can request copies of your transcript online through the Registrar's website.

Can I use a credit voucher for an Education 2000+ workshop?

Many K-12 teachers cooperate with the UO College of Education (COE) by working with student teachers during the school year. As a "thank you" for this service, the College provides participating classroom teachers with a credit voucher so that they may take university credit courses at reduced fees.

Due to a recent policy change, the vouchers can no longer be redeemed for self-suppport coursework (such as the Education 2000+ workshops). You can use the vouchers to reduce the tutition costs of courses offered through the UO College of Education and other UO academic departments.

Are these credits transferable to another institution?

You will need to check with the institution to which the credit would be transferred. You can contact UO Academic Advising or the UO Admissions office for additional information on the University's policies.

What is a PDU?

A PDU is a Professional Development Unit. Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission requires teachers to accrue PDUs for license renewal. One clock hour equals one PDU.

How many PDUs will I receive?

Clock time for most one-day workshops equals 6.5 PDUs. If you enroll in a credit course, one-quarter hour of academic credit is equivalent to 20 PDUs. All workshop participants receive a certificate of participation that verifies the number of hours of instruction associated with the workshop and the equivalent number of PDUs.

Do these PDUs meet the teacher certification requirements?

Yes, but you should check with your school district office to find out how the school district records this information.
