Preauthorization

Read the following information and complete the online preauthorization form. Allow two business days to receive a confirmation e-mail from Distance Education staff at disted@uoregon.edu e-mail. This e-mail serves as a notification that your request is being processed.

Attendance

Online courses begin and end with the regular UO term schedule. Courses will begin the first day of class and conclude during week ten. These courses are not self-paced and cannot be completed through credit-by-examination.

Communication

Online course communication relies primarily on e-mail. Instructors and Distance Education Program staff will be accessible by e-mail daily. Allow for 24-hour response time, Monday-Friday. Instructors will notify the class if there are online "office hours" or best times to be reached.

Instructors and DE staff work together to provide the best instruction and assistance possible. Contact the following depending on your question:

  1. Course content and materials, contact the instructors.
  2. Registration and technical assistance, contact DE staff.
  3. Exam proctoring, contact the Social Science Instructional Labs (SSIL).

Self-support Fee

Some online courses have a Self-support fee that replaces regular tuition for that course. This is not an additional fee on top of tuition costs. Self-support fees are fixed amounts regardless of residency status, course load, other tuition assessments, major, etc. For more information, contact the Registrar’s Office.

Preauthorization Process

  1. Complete the online preauthorization form. Allow two business days for your request to be processed.
  2. DE staff will contact you by e-mail and notify you of your status for registering for the course. If you have submitted a preauthorization form but have not been contacted by DE within two business days, please contact Distance Education to ensure that your form was received.
  3. Once you have received the notification e-mail, go to DuckWeb and register.
  4. Preauthorization does not guarantee registration for any online course. If students cannot register within a reasonable window of time, they will need to contact DE staff for special considerations or accommodations.
  5. On the first day of class, log in to Blackboard for your course. Students will need a uoregon.edu e-mail address and password. If you do not have a uoregon.edu e-mail address or need help establishing your password, please contact DE staff as soon as possible.
