Textbooks

Some UO Distance Education courses require textbooks or reading packets; other courses use the UO Libraries E-Reserve program. Check the course syllabus or contact individual instructors regarding textbook requirements.

In general, Distance Education courses in the following subjects require textbooks: EC, GEOG, GEOL, LING, and PS. These subjects do not usually require textbooks: ASTR, AAD, and PHYS. However, please be aware that textbook requirements vary by term, section, and instructor. Always read the course syllabus and verify with the instructor whether a textbook or course packet is required.

UO Library System and E-Reserves

The UO Library System and the library’s Distance Education Services websites provide general access to academic journals, research databases, and interlibrary loan among many other services.

UO students, faculty, and staff who use the Computing Center's network services have full access to electronic resources offered by the library. Students, faculty and staff who use a non-UO Internet Service Provider (ISP) may find information on gaining access to the library's electronic resources by using the library's proxy server.

E-Reserves

Electronic Reserves (E-Reserves), offered by the UO Library System, provides access to electronic course materials 24 hours a day. Instructors may place text files, journal articles, book chapters, bibliographies, graphics, and class notes (all subject to copyright law) on E-Reserves. These pages are password protected to restrict access to enrolled students. Instructors will provide students with appropriate password information each term.
