Among graduates and faculty members are two Nobel Prize recipients, ten Pulitzer Prize winners, five members of the National Academy of Sciences, and ten members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. About UO Distance EducationSince 1996, enrollments in online courses have steadily increased at the University of Oregon. A growing selection of both students and faculty find fully online or hybrid (a combination of distance learning with traditional classroom instruction) courses to be valuable modes of delivery. The University of Oregon offers a variety of Distance Education courses designed to allow admitted and non-admitted students the flexibility of completing coursework outside the traditional classroom. Distance Education classes can be taken from anywhere that has reliable Internet access. Distance Education courses are part of the larger UO curriculum. These alternative delivery modes use technologies in unique ways to present content, promote interaction among faculty and students, apply knowledge in a practical way, and assess student learning. For StudentsDistance Education courses utilize the Blackboard course management system, video-conferencing, as well as many other support tools and services. E-mail and access to the Internet are required for all courses. Note that Internet cafes and some other computing resources may not be sufficient for many courses, as they often have security settings and/or do not allow the installation of necessary software (JAVA, for instance). Some Distance Education courses will require students to set up an exam proctor as well. Admitted UO students can register for these courses through DuckWeb. Not an admitted UO student? Register for courses through the Community Education Program (CEP). (Please note: If you have ever been admitted to a degree program at UO and did not complete your studies, contact the Office of Admissions.)
