How Proposals Are Evaluated top
Session and workshop review captains are recruited from within ISTE's various SIG communities and the region where the conference will be taking place. Each review captain assembles a team of 3-5 independent reviewers to review approximately 40 proposals grouped by theme and strand. Research Paper reviewers are recruited from within SIGTE and amongst the paper submitters themselves.
Each reviewer fills out an individual online review form prior to the group submitting a final consensus recommendation of accept, accept if room, not objectionable, or do not accept. Evaluations are based primarily on:
- relevancy of topic to the field of educational technology
- educational significance and contribution to the respective theme and strand
- ease of replication
- value to participants
- presenter knowledge and experience
Research Papers, in particular, are double-blind peer reviewed with evaluations based primarily on:
- clearly stated and well-conceived research objectives
- current and well-articulated perspectives or theoretical framework
- appropriate and well-executed research methods (designs, data sources, data analysis) that are sufficiently detailed to evaluate the quality of the study
- well-grounded results (or expectations)
- well-written proposal (clear writing style, organization, clarity of ideas and expression)
- importance of study (timeliness, advances the field)
In total, it takes approximately 300 reviewers to review the more than 2200 proposals we expect to receive. This process ensures that every proposal is reviewed by at least three people.
