The hosts of the 52nd Annual AUA Conference are excited to invite you to Cincinnati! We have put together just a small sampling of the fun things you can do and see during your stay in the River City. Many of the items described below are being offered as part of the guest program for the AUA conference. Wright Patterson Air Force Base MuseumDayton, OH - Base Operator 937/257-1110 National Museum of the US Air Force (on WPAFB) 937-255-3286 "Wright Patt" is home to the National Museum of the US Air Force. The museum is the largest and oldest military aviation museum in the world. The museum presents the exciting story of aviation development from the days of the Wright brothers to the Space Age. Paramount's Kings Island offers seven colorful, themed areas (including two specifically designed for children, their parents and grandparents), 40 world-class thrill rides, great live entertainment stage shows, a huge Australian-themed water resort, and a 10,000-seat outdoor amphitheater. Admission: Adults $7.50; Senior (65+) $6.50; Student w/ID $5.50; Children (3-13) $4.50; Members and Children under 3 free At the cutting edge of modern art for decades, this museum was one of the first in America to exhibit Picasso's savage Guernica in the 1940s and the controversial nude photographs of Robert Mapplethorpe in 1990. A non-collecting museum, the center showcases special exhibitions from its new digs in the $28-million, newly renamed Lois and Richard Rosenthal Contemporary Arts Center. Opened in 2003, it was the first U.S. art museum designed by a woman, London-based Zaha Hadid, who won the prestigious Pritzker Prize for this design. The sixth floor of the museum, called the UnMuseum, is devoted to hands-on, interactive art experiences for children, families, and art lovers of all ages. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center stands as the nation's newest monument to freedom. It brings to life the importance - and relevance - of struggles for freedom around the world and throughout history, including today. Has seeing the price of freedom changed how you view the world today? And the world tomorrow? A series of state-of-the-art, interactive exhibits allow you to look back to the past, while also looking ahead to the future. A dialogue hall will let you share reactions to the meaning of freedom and ways to share racial, social and political perspectives. Be sure to see its exotic collection of felines (including some white lions!), the newly renovated Sumatran rhino exhibit, the creatures of the evening in the Nocturnal House, and exhibits focusing on elephants, manatees, polar bears, and more. The world famous Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden was rated the #1 attraction in Cincinnati and one of the top five zoos in the nation by Zagat Survey. Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-5pm; Wednesday, 11am-9pm; Closed Mondays. Your general admission to the Cincinnati Art Museum is free every day, though special exhibition fees may apply. Located in scenic Eden Park, perched atop a hill in a lush 19th-century park, the Cincinnati Art Museum features an unparalleled art collection of more than 60,000 works spanning 6,000 years. Paintings from Botticelli and Titian to Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, Picasso, and Andy Warhol adorn the galleries. Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal1301 Western Ave. - 513/287-7000. Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm; Sunday, 11am-6pm. Tickets can be purchased in single or combination packets. The Cincinnati Museum Center is housed in Union Terminal, built in 1931 and recently restored to its original Art Deco grandeur. Inside you'll find three museums and the Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX Theater. In the Museum of Natural History and Science, exhibits immerse you in different Ohio Valley environments. The Cincinnati Historical Society Museum has one of the largest regional collections in the U.S. At the Cinergy Children's Museum, you'll find nine interactive exhibits, including Waterworks, Energy Zone, Little Sprouts Farm, and Kids at Work. Eden Park's Krohn Conservatory is a nationally recognized showcase of more than 3,500 plant species from all over the world. The Palm, Tropical, Desert and Orchid houses exhibit permanent displays of exotic plants in natural settings, complete with a 20 foot rainforest waterfall. The Display House features rotating. Floral exhibits. Mt. AdamsNestled high above downtown Cincinnati and the beautiful Ohio River, for over 200 years, historic Mt. Adams has shared a rich and fascinating history with the City of Cincinnati. Named after President John Quincy Adams, who in 1843 delivered the dedication address for what was then known as the world's most powerful observatory (now site of the Monastery), the Hill has long enjoyed a tradition of fine wine, art and entertainment. Today Mt. Adams is home to over 1300 residents and dozens of retail businesses. The area has retained its charm with narrow, winding streets, spectacular river and city views, a bustling commercial life and interesting examples of architectural styles including five buildings currently listed on the historic register.
