Title:More Than Just the Facts - Making Non-Fiction FUN for Young Readers

Description:Children’s author, science writer, and editor Conrad J. Storad provides his unique perspective on presenting non-fiction to young readers. The session is a beginner’s guide for teachers who work with young readers and writers, both the enthusiastic and reluctant variety. In this session, Storad shares his methods for getting young readers “turned on” to science and non-fiction material. Storad’s emphasis is on how to present factual material in an entertaining manner.

Title:Not in My School: Recognizing Signals of Trouble in Students

Description:What do you do if you suspect a student is using drugs? Do you know what signs to look for in gang identification? This proactive session will focus on being able to see underlying messages that students display and that teachers and administrators need to recognize. The instructor is a 10 year veteran police officer who now teaches high school. He has worked with local gang and drug task forces and will offer tools for teachers and administrators to be "in-tune" with their students. Title:Online Science Labs, Considerations and Experiences
