Professional Tools for Digital Media

Welcome to Professional Tools for Digital Media (PTDM) workshop courses. The University of Oregon Department of Art and UO Division of Continuing Education are partnering to offer five unique series in Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

These 1 credit workshop courses are designed for career professionals, students, and community members to develop and expand their digital multimedia and graphic skill sets. Each series consists of different skill levels to accommodate varying needs.

PTDM workshop courses are offered throughout the academic year (fall, winter, and spring) on the main UO campus in Eugene. All workshops have two four-hour sessions as well as an extended final project. Download upcoming workshop dates from the link on the right, or check the current Class Schedule for dates and location. You may also call Continuing Education at (541) 346-4231 or (800) 824-2714 for more information.

Who is eligible to take PTDM courses?

  • PTDM workshops are available for anyone (career professionals, students, and community members) interested in expanding and developing their knowledge and skills within the five software series offered. These workshop courses enhance both personal and professional digitally based projects. Non-admitted students and community members can register via the Community Education Program or by calling Continuing Education.

Are there any requirements or prerequisites?

  • PTDM workshops have no major/minor requirements or prerequisites. Participants should have prior computer knowledge and be familiar with terminology like file handling, attaching files, operating system, and up or downloading.
  • Students who require use of handicap accessible elevators or lifts should contact Disability Services in advance to coordinate obtaining a lift key.

Do PTDM courses have to be taken in order?

  • Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop each have three levels, ranging from Introduction to Advanced. Participants are not required to complete every level of one program before taking another (e.g. finishing a Flash series prior to registering for Introduction to InDesign).
  • Without prior experience of Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, or Photoshop, participants should take the courses in order of level, from Introduction to Advanced.
  • If you have prior experience with one of the five programs taught through PTDM and wish to skip a course level (e.g. start with Intermediate), then instructor approval is required. Please contact the appropriate workshop instructor for approval. For a current list of PTDM faculty, please visit the faculty section of our site or the UO online class schedule.
