ISTE Awards Presentations
Please join us in honoring the 2009 winners of ISTE's annual educational technology awards. The exemplary recipients of these awards have demonstrated excellence and innovation in the effective use of technology.
The awards will be presented at Tuesday morning's Keynote Session, 8:30–9:45 am, Ballroom, Level Three.

The Sylvia Charp Award for District Innovation in Technology
Sponsored by T.H.E. Journal and ISTE
This award recognizes a school district that has demonstrated consistent effectiveness and innovations in the application of technology districtwide.
CONGRATULATIONS to Glen Cove School District, Glen Cove, NY, USA, represented by Dr. Shari Camhi, assistant superintendent and Joseph Geller, director of technical services.

2009 ISTE Outstanding Teacher Award
This award recognizes and honors a classroom teacher who has demonstrated
outstanding achievement in implementing technology to improve education. Winners are selected from nominations by ISTE Affiliate organizations.

2009 ISTE Outstanding Leader Award
This award recognizes and honors an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in implementing technology to improve education. Winners are selected from nominations by ISTE Affiliate organizations.
CONGRATULATIONS to Karl Fisch, director of technology, Arapahoe High School, Centennial, CO, USA, representing Technology in Education-Colorado (TIE-CO).

ISTE's Kay L. Bitter Vision Award for Excellence in Technology-Based PK–2 Education
This award recognizes a PK–2 educator who has demonstrated vision and creativity in a project or program that effectively integrates technology into his/her classroom and/or school.

2009 SIGTel Online Learning Award
Sponsored by ISTE SIGTel (Telelearning/Distance Learning)
This award recognizes creative educators for their pioneering use of telelearning activities to provide innovative learning opportunities for students in grades K–16. Winners will present poster sessions about their projects.

SECOND PLACE: Roxanne Glaser, Education Service Center Region 12, Waco, TX, USA, with Shane Howard, Service Center Region 12, Waco, TX, USA, Rusty Garrett, KWTX News 10, Waco, TX, USA, Project Title: Twisted Weather.
THIRD PLACE: Lisa Parisi, Denton Avenue Elementary School, New Hyde Park, NY, USA, with Christine Southard, Denton Avenue Elementary New Hyde Park, NY, USA. Project Title: Poetry Collaboration.

2009 SIGTE Research Paper
Sponsored by ISTE SIGTE
The winning paper is "Cyberbullying: Using Virtual Scenarios to Educate and
Raise Awareness" by the following authors from the University of Alabama: Dr. Vivian H. Wright, Dr. Joy J. Burnham, Christopher T. Inman, Heather N. Ogorchock.
The winner of the SIGTE Research Paper Awards will be announced at the SIGTE
business meeting. The winning author will also present the paper at a special SIGTEsponsored session.

2009 SIG Media Specialist Technology Innovation Award
This annual award, sponsored by Linworth Publishing Inc. and Follett Software Company, honors teams of a school librarian and collaborating teacher who have conducted an exemplary technology program extending beyond the library to meet the needs of classroom students and teachers.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CATEGORY: Karen Kliegman and Noël Forte, Searington Elementary School, Albertson, NY, USA, for Meet the Candidates.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CATEGORY: Lindsay Cesari and Patrick Donahue, Durgee Jr. High School, Baldwinsville, NY, USA, for Digital Commercials of a Scientific Element.
HIGH SCHOOL CATEGORY: Belinda O'Brien, Susan Casement, and Cindy Rubenstein, Minerva Deland School, Fairport, NY, USA, for A Person Who Changed His/Her World.

2009 Public Policy Advocate of the Year Award
This award recognizes an individual who is an outstanding leader and mentor in advocating for education technology policy at the local, state, regional, national, and/or international level.
CONGRATULATIONS to Sheryl Abshire, chief technology officer, Calcasieu Parish School System, Lake Charles, LA, USA.
