NECC 2007 Volunteer Task Descriptions

Task Description of Duty Any Special Skills
Ask-me Stations answer questions; give directions, etc. Each Ask-me station will be equipped with an information reference packet. able to work solo; good communication; comfortable with public interaction; good problem-solving skills; quick learner; veteran NECC attendees a plus
Bag Stuffing: Packet Prep Thursday afternoon, June 21: box movers and packet set-up—need strong able-bodied workers packet prep requires strength; involves lifting/moving and unpacking boxes
Bag Stuffing Friday morning, June 22: packet stuffing; putting material into conference bags—assembly line style involves standing/stuffing/shifting bags around, etc.
Bring Your Own Laptop (BYOL) Sessions Assistance assist attendees and presenters at the beginning and during these sessions good tech skills on both MAC and PC helpful
Daily Newsletter Distribution distribute newsletters to attendees at General Sessions friendly and outgoing; comfortable with busy public interaction
Dr. Is In answer attendees' technical questions experience in troubleshooting both Mac and PC computers, and both Palm and windows-based handhelds
Ed Tech Action Network (ETAN) Booth Assistance invite and help attendees to send e-mail letters to Congress through the ETAN Web site friendly and outgoing; comfortable with public interaction
Fun Run at the event—greeting; giving directions, helping to pass out water; organizing people able to be outside in heat; good early morning personalities
Info Booth

(Local and General)

staffing (with others) of main information booth; answering questions; giving directions, etc. comfortable with busy public interaction in a high-traffic location; quick learner; friendly and helpful orientation; some with high knowledge of local area
Interactive Videoconferencing (IVC) Facilitator Support IVC presenters before and during their sessions, workshops, and showcases. Assist with microphone and camera manipulation and audience management. In the case of showcases, may be called upon to stand-in as "on camera" host/facilitator for remote presenter. Experience with leading and conducting videoconferences. "On camera" experience as either a local or remote presenter helpful.
Interactive Videoconferencing (IVC) Operations Support IVC session, workshop, and showcase operations. Test connections, monitor sessions, troubleshoot problems. Understanding of video conference connections (H.323) and equipment. Experience with Polycom or TANDBERG equipment helpful.
ISTE Booth Assistance greeting members and assisting ISTE staff with promotions in the association booth comfortable with high traffic and public interaction; familiarity with ISTE products a plus
ISTE Member Event Assistance varied assistance with member events; greeting and directing people, check in registrants, collect, pass out and/or seat drop materials at events friendly and outgoing; comfortable with public interaction
Model Classroom Sessions Assistance assist Program Chairs and presenters within this content area  
Multilingual Activities assist coordinators in prep and set-up for International reception; assist at other international activities as needed multiple languages if possible; comfortable with public interaction
On-Call as needed: may assist with greeting and herding student performer groups before, during, and after performances; drop material on seats before General Session(s) for assisting with student performer groups: good with kids and parents
Press Room

(Media Work Room)

greeting Press and assisting PR firm, Ulum Group, with hosting Press room comfortable with public interaction; experience with computers and applications
Presenters' World Host / Storage acting as host to Presenters' World; greet presenters; help get their questions answered as needed; help keep room presentable; staffing the storage area in Presenters' World designed for presenters to store their stuff daily—involves check-in/out process and acting as gatekeeper to storage area comfortable with public interaction; experience with computers and applications
Presenters' World: Tech Help act as in-room technical assistance for presenters using Presenters' World. good tech skills on both Mac and PC; previous presenting experience
Playground Area Assistance assist Program Chairs and presenters within this content area
Posters Area Assistance assist Poster Co-Chairs and presenters within this content area
Student Showcase Area Assistance assist Student Showcase Co-Chairs and presenters within this content area
Social Events Greeters / Assistance greeting attendees; taking / giving out tickets; Prep: program stuffing possibly; seat drops, etc.
Transportation Conv Center (and/or hotels as needed) greet and direct attendees to the correct buses some local people would be most helpful; comfortable outside (hot weather); comfortable with high traffic and public interaction
Transportation Workshop / Conv Ctr greet and direct attendees to the correct buses same as above
