1. Basic operations and concepts: Completing a digital story requires an understanding of technology systems and the proficient use of hardware (PC) and software. Additionally students may need to take digital pictures and manipulate those images e.g. optimizing, and cropping. 2. Social, ethical, and human issues: Using software such as Photo Story 3 for digital storytelling gives students technology skills that they can use for personal pursuits and collaboration with others. 3. Technology productivity tools: The making of student documentaries and the ability to narrate gives students a powerful voice that promotes creativity and enhances learning. 4. Technology communications tools: Digital storytelling allows for the use of multimedia e.g. images, animation, text, and sound. This powerful combination provides the opportunity for students to communicate their ideas in new ways. 5. Technology research tools: The digital storytelling format provides a unique platform for the delivery of results. ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers I. Technology operations and concepts: Teachers will use both hardware and software as they work on digital stories for project development or content delivery.. II. Planning and designing learning environments and experiences: Digital storytelling allows teachers to plan new and dynamic learning experiences for students using technology. IV. Assessment and evaluation: Digital storys allow for authentic assessment of both the content and technology standards. V. Productivity and professional practice: Digital storytelling will enhance the professional practices of teaches, giving them a powerful tool that can be used in all curricular areas.

Purpose & ObjectivesThe purpose of this session is to show educators the power of Digital storytelling. Teachers will see how this simple tool can be used in all curricular areas providing students with an opportunity to dynamically represent their thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Further teachers will examine the role of project based cooperative learning as a vehicle to cover content. The presenter will model the use of software designed for digital storytelling and develop a project including lesson plans and graphic organizers to facilitate cooperative project based learning.OutlineI.
