Purpose & Objectives

Objectives:
The participant will be able to
*establish an early childhood technology center
*teach young children how to use different technologies
*develop curricula integrating technology
*utilize resource websites and ideas for integration

Purpose: The purpose of the workshop is to have teachers analyze their current use of technology and develop strategies to use technology in the early childhood classroom by setting up technology centers in the classroom and by using technology for classroom management. The information will be based on current research and experiences of the presenter in the early childhood classroom and as a teacher of teachers.

Outline

Participants will receive information on the current research on the use of computers in early childhood classrooms. They will learn specifics about establishing a technology center for children and ideas on integrating technology into their existing curriculum. The presenter will share ideas developed while she worked in early childhood classrooms as a teacher and also those she has developed training new teachers to use technology. The participants will also receive ideas on how to use technology for classroom management and creating a better classroom environment using technology. Handouts will include specific ideas on using technology in early childhood, helpful websites and tips for teachers on classroom management using technology. The use of common technology available to most teachers will be discussed.

Presenter Background

Teacher Certification in Technology for EC-12 grade.
Doctoral minor in Educational Technology (doctorate in process and all minor courses completed).
Member-at-large for the Technology and Young Children Forum of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and committee member for website reform.
Presented at NAEYC on technology use with children, as well as at many regional, state and local groups on technology integration in early childhood.
