Learning and Leading with Technology

Trina DavisA warm welcome to all, and thank you for coming to ISTE's NECC in Atlanta! I'm delighted to have this time with you in this historic city. In keeping with the conference theme, Learning and Leading with Technology, you'll find the latest in visionary thinking and learning environments. Look for the best in leadership training, global initiatives, resources for advocacy, products and services—and more.

We hope you and your team will explore and sample this rich array, then share what you learn when you get back home. Explore the new NETS for Students with their focus on creativity, innovation, and digital citizenship. Watch videoconferencing link teachers from Canada to Africa and enrich the lives of rural and isolated students. Learn what's in store for youth technical support programs, and how GIS, digital microscopes, and action research projects are revitalizing science and math curriculum.

I'm eager to share the week's important work with the many thousands of dedicated education professionals here from all over the world who are helping our children learn, live, and pursue their best opportunities in this increasingly digital world.

Have an inspiring week and do take advantage of the unparalleled opportunities to help shape the future of education. Thank you for your transformative energies and your dedication to students. Thanks also to all the staff, volunteers, presenters, members, and participating organizations who've worked long and hard to bring you this exciting NECC program.

The magnolia has long been an icon of perseverance and resilience. Yet its creamy blossoms are historically symbolic of mankind's relationship with the natural world. As a visual representation of ISTE's 2007 conference theme, the magnolia evokes the essential duality of what it takes to be a 21st-century educator.
