A warm welcome to all...

...and thank you for coming to ISTE's NECC in San Diego! I hope that while we're together in this beautiful city we can explore ... dream ... discover ... a world of opportunity for all 21st Century learners. Thanks also to all the staff, volunteers, presenters, members, and participating organizations who've worked long and hard to bring you this exciting NECC program.

I believe it is our responsibility and our privilege to chart an intentional course for the future of education. And I believe that we must do so in a global context.

There's no better time and place to learn about possible and preferable futures than this week in San Diego, where you'll find the latest in visionary thinking and learning environments as well as the best in leadership training, global initiatives, assistive technologies, assessment solutions, broadband access, resources for advocacy—and more.

We hope you and your team will explore and sample this rich array, then share what you learn when you get back home. Find out how the $100 laptop and other 1-to-1 initiatives are revolutionizing the way children learn. Watch videoconferencing link teachers from Canada to Africa and enrich the lives of rural and isolated students. Find out why students are flocking to music classes that use digital tools and how internet radio can charge up a drama club. Learn what's in store for youth technical support programs, and how GIS, digital microscopes, and action research projects are revitalizing science and math curriculum.

And don't miss the Borderlands events with some presenters doing their sessions in Spanish and English! Y no falte los acontecimientos de Borderlands con algunos presentadores haciendo sus sesiones en español e ingles.

Kurt Steinhaus, President, ISTE Board of Directors Have an inspiring and successful week and do take advantage of the unparalleled opportunities to help shape the future of education. Thank you for your transformative energies and your dedication to student success.
